---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Berlin-based biotechnology company MOLOGEN AG announced today that the
European Patent Office intends to grant the patent for DNA-vaccines against
Leishmaniasis for use in humans and in companion animals. The vaccines
contain different combinations of MIDGE-Th1 vectors. Each vector encodes a
different target structure (antigen) of the pathogens causing the
infection. One of these combinations of antigens is already contained in
the MIDGE-based DNA vaccine against Leishmaniasis in companion animals. The
vaccine is currently subject of an advanced clinical development program,
which is conducted by an undisclosed world-wide leading animal health
company.

Information and Explaination of the Issuer to this News:
In 2006, MOLOGEN had entered a research and development, collaboration and
license agreement with an undisclosed leading US animal health company for
its MIDGE-based vaccine against Leishmaniasis for a companion animal
application.
MOLOGEN plans to develop MIDGE-based vaccines also for the use in humans.
Leishmaniasis is among the key indications of MOLOGEN's development
program.
About MIDGE-Th1
MIDGE-TH1 facilitates the design of highly specific and most efficient DNA
vaccines in a way that the so called TH1 pathway of the immune system is
triggered to overcome infections. This TH1 pathway is required to fight
pathogens which replicate within the cell.
About Leishmaniasis
The pathogens causing the disease Leishmaniasis can be transmitted between
animals and human beings. With high prevalence, Leishmaniasis occurs in
regions of subtropical and Mediterranean climate. Parasites of the genus
Leishmania are transmitted by certain sandflies.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has classified the Leishmaniasis as an
emerging disease. To develop new and more effective therapeutics and
vaccines against Leishmaniasis, a number of multi-national research
programs have been launched.
