Management

Quentin T. Kelly, Chairman and CEO, is WW&ST’s founder and has been Chairman of the Company since its inception in 1984. He has many years experience in international business involving water and solar power needs in the developing world, and has worked with several international assistance agencies, including UNDP, UNICEF and USAID. He holds three patents relating to water and solar systems. In 1998, he was inducted into the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame. Earlier, Mr. Kelly was Assistant to the President of Westinghouse Electric Corp., and CEO of corporations manufacturing and marketing specialized water and solar systems internationally.

Dr. Frank Smith, Executive Vice President & COO, served as Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at EMCORE Corporation, where he identified target acquisitions, managed the due diligence process, and provided strategic direction for the company. Prior to this, he was an Operations Director at JDS Uniphase and a Program Manager at Lockheed Martin. He was also a Manager at MIT’s Lincoln Labs and has accumulated five patents under his name. Smith holds a B.S. in Engineering & Applied Science from Yale University and a Masters and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from MIT, where he also earned his MBA from the Sloan School of Management.

Dr. Anand Rangarajan, Executive Vice President & CTO, is a solar and water pump specialist. He has 20 years of experience in all aspects of the solar electric business and has pioneered the development of several proprietary solar–driven water pumping systems, products and markets. His systems have been installed in over 20 countries. He holds his Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin and spent several years working with MIT’s Lincoln Laboratory.

Larry L. Crawford, Executive Vice President & CFO, served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Escala Group, Inc., a position held since 2001. He was previously Chief Financial Officer of Arzee Holdings, Inc., from 1996 to 2001, and Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Talon, Inc., a subsidiary of Coats Viyella plc., from 1987 to 1996. Mr. Crawford is a certified public accountant and received his B.A. from Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A. from the Lubin School of Business of Pace University.

Joseph Cygler has been an executive in international business consulting and operations management, an executive with Honeywell Information Systems and a marketing representative with IBM. He is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Amb. Lange Schermerhorn recently retired as U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti. She is a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Foreign Service with expertise in the politics and economics of Europe and Asia and specifically the countries of East Africa.

Dr. Davinder Sethi served as Director and Senior Advisor to Barclays de Zoete Wedd, spent seven years at Bell Laboratories in operations research and communications network planning and seven years at AT&T in corporate finance. He holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research, Economics and Statistics from the University of California at Berkeley.

W. Harrison Wellford, Esq. is a retired partner in the Washington office of the international law firm of Latham & Watkins LLC. He is active in the areas of energy, mergers and acquisitions and project finance law and is the Company’s corporate legal advisor.

Reuben Richards joined EMCORE Corporation in October 1995 as its President and Chief Operating Officer and became Chief Executive Officer in December 1996. Mr. Richards has been a director of EMCORE since May 1995. From December 1993 to December 1995 he was a member and President of Jesup & Lamont Merchant Partners.

Dr. Hong Hou is currently President, COO and a Board Director of EMCORE Corp. He co-started EMCORE's Photovoltaics Division, and subsequently managed the Fiber Optics Division. He holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of California at San Diego. He has published over 150 journal articles and holds seven U.S. patents.

Kelly in response to a vacuum he saw in the private sector in supplying water and power to developing nations. Patent Development

In 2001, the Company was awarded a second patent for its most significant technological breakthrough: WorldWater's engineers broke the threshold of solar pumping capability from the industry standard of approximately 5 horsepower to up to 600 horsepower. WorldWater’s solar systems now had a sharply increased power capability, and were able to operate industrial-size pumps and motors in the U.S. agricultural, water utility, viticulture and manufacturing sectors. This was followed in 2003 by a patent for the Company’s automatic switching technology, which enables a grid-connected system – in the event of a daylight power outage – to automatically and instantaneously switch to solar power alone without any interruption in power and without any operator intervention. WorldWater Filed for New Patent for Maximum Power Point Speed Control

Controls Motor Speed as a Function of Available DC Source Power for Optimum Performance — June 22, 2005

WorldWater filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a Maximum Power Point Speed Control, a method and apparatus that performs maximum power tracking of motor speed. The present invention relates generally to the operation of AC motors or similar loads with AC motor drives that convert power from a DC source (such as sun power) to AC, and more particularly to operation of the motor at maximum power as the power from the DC source varies.

A particular application is to solar powered systems and water pumps. A solar powered water pumping system typically has three primary components: the solar array, made of photovoltaic (PV) modules; a converter (inverter or motor drive) which converts the DC from the PV array to AC; and an AC motor (pump). The motor typically runs at a particular frequency (speed), e.g. 60 Hz. The converter will usually be set to provide AC power at that particular frequency. The motor will run at a speed equal to the AC frequency. The WorldWater & Power development replaces hardware with software enabling the motor to change speed in order to operate optimally with the available power from the sun.

WorldWater has two patents issued involving its new technology and three more pending

The first patent (issued Aug 14, 2001) enabled WorldWater & Power Corp. to break through the generally accepted 5 hp limit on solar pumping systems to operate systems up to 600 hp and to interact seamlessly with the electric grid. (Other solar pumping systems are limited to 5 hp because they have not successfully developed such a power control system capable of adapting to the wide fluctuations of power generated by the solar array above that level.) The second patent (issued June 24, 2003) enables the sensing of grid power interruptions with an ensuing immediate switch to solar drive to continue motor/pump operations. Together, these two patents bring tight protection to the individual inventions, forcing any competitor attempting to obtain high-powered solar pumping and/or grid backup power to use the WorldWater & Power Corp. patents or to try illegally to avoid them. WorldWater Featured in New York Times Patents Column - Solar technology automatically provides grid backup during blackout - 9-1-03

The column, written by Patents columnist Teresa Riordan, emphasized the ability of the automatic switching technology to switch a system to backup solar power within seconds of a power failure, such as the recent Northeast and Midwest power blackout. It also noted that the switching takes place without any operator intervention.

The column noted that the technology was originally developed to assist California farmers avoid grid power outages when irrigating their crops on hot, dry days. Other likely adopters of the new technology include water and sewage plants, like those that dumped millions of gallons of raw sewage into waterways during the recent blackout. Users may also include shopping centers and utilities, the column said. It also is ideal for use in developing countries, where electrical grid power frequently is unavailable.

The patent, number 6,583,522, was issued in June to Dr. Anand Rangarajan, WorldWater’s Executive Vice President, and Thomas McNulty, Director of Engineering.

U.S. Military to Receive 12 Portable, Solar-Powered MobileMaxPure™ Units for Shipment to Iraq – Units will Supply 30,000 Gallons Per Day of Irrigation, Fresh Drinking Water and Electricity to Iraqi Farmers and their FamiliesWorldWater & Solar Technologies Corp., developer and marketer of proprietary high-power solar systems, is shipping an order of 12 MobileMaxPure......™ Units for use by farmers in the Euphrates Valley of Iraq. The order is being funded by the Morrell Foundation, an international charitable foundation providing assistance to people across the world, particularly those in need of a clean water supply. At the request of the U.S. Marines at Camp Fallujah, WorldWater and Morrell are supplying the systems to the Military for assistance to the farmers. As shown at right, pictured are six of the 12 units picked up from WorldWater's headquarters in Ewing, NJ on December 27 that are being stored by Morrell prior to overseas shipment.

Mobile MaxPure™ is WorldWater's stand-alone, sturdy and robust 7-foot cube that opens with the press of a button, unfolding a solar array which can deliver 3.2 kilowatts of electrical power and, with the Company's patented AquaMax™ controls, can pump and purify up to 30,000 gallons of water daily.
