Colorado Goldfields is exploring extensive surface and subsurface high-grade mineralized zones at its mines in Colorado’s historically prolific Silverton mining district.
With the advanced stage of its Gold King Mine and the processing capacity of its Pride of the West Mill in Howardsville, Colorado, the company projects initial gold production can potentially occur within a two to three year time frame.
The company’s full-scale, early-stage exploration program is centered on the original Gold King Mine, which has a documented expenditure of $9.7 million in the late 1980s when it was the major property of public company Gold King Consolidated, Inc.
Gold King Mine features past gold and silver production valued at $289 million at today’s metals prices and historic reserves valued at $370 million. The company is working to verify and expand these historic resource figures.
The company’s Mayflower Mine had historic production of approximately 520,000 ounces of gold and 12.3 million ounces of silver from 1929-1953. The value of precious metals produced during that period would be worth $581 million at current metals prices.
On February 25, 2008 the company reported positive assay results from its work program conducted in September to October 2007 at the Gold King and Mogul properties.
In November 2007 Colorado Goldfields closed a $3,284,475 non-brokered private placement. The company reported proceeds will be used to fund the exploration and development of its Silverton mining properties, acquisition of mineral properties, loan repayment, working capital and general corporate purposes.
Colorado ranks 3rd among the states in gold production. (Colorado Mining Association, “Mining Facts & Resources”, 2008)
According to the Colorado Mining Association, Colorado hosts one of the most productive gold mines in the United States—the Cresson Mine, which has produced more than two million ounces. Cresson Mine is owned by Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company (CC&V), a joint venture between AngloGold Ashanti (Colorado) Corp. and Golden Cycle Corporation. The mine produced 329,625 ounces of gold in 2005.
Gold prices are at all-time highs. The price is $948 per ounce and climbing as of February 26, 2008, with even conservative analysts predicting the precious metal will break through $1000 in the near term and reach $1200 this summer.
